We have always struggled with thinking of and targeting relevant keywords because keywords like ‘videography’ and ‘family movies’ don’t really some up what she is about. Your article ties in with other learnings we have come across where we obviously need to reach out to right people and get them to share to get her product out there because purely focusing on keywords I don’t think will get us anywhere.

Search engine traffic is great because it’s relevant and targeted. For most websites, organic traffic converts much better than traffic from social media or other sources. Another great advantage is that visits from search engines are much more consistent.

Tap into a wellspring of ideas, and prospective publishing material, by providing blogs, newsgroups, communities, message boards, polls and other forums where ideas are readily exchanged.
I’ve included two scenarios for those solo ads. That’s because you never know what results you’re going to get. The best you can do is figure out a realistically decent result, and see how that compares to your current cost per conversion. Then run the numbers again with worst-case scenario results. If you can still get a cost per conversion that doesn’t scare you, this might be a solo ad worth the test.
Brian, great post as always! Question: Do you consider authority sites (industry portals) a form of “influencer marketing?” e.g. guest blogging, etc? In some niches there are not so many individuals who are influencers (outside of journalists) but there are sites that those in the industry respect. Now we come to the tricky part. If you are like me and manage hundreds, if not thousands of ads, converting these ads to a new format manually can take an impossibly long time. Hey Ashok! Good question. I work with clients in a lot of different industries, so the tactics I employ are often quite different depending on the client. In general though, creating killer resources around popular topics, or tools related to client services. This provides a ton of outreach opportunity. For example: We had a client build a tool that allowed webmasters to quickly run SSL scans on their sites and identofy non-secure resources. We reached out to people writing about SSLs, Https migration etc and pitched it as a value-add. We built ~50 links to that tool in 45 days. Not a massive total, but they were pretty much all DR 40+.
There are quite a lot of sites that will sell you access to their lists. I am not going to specifically recommend any of them to you. Why? Because what works for one person is not going to work for another. Even if you’re in the same niche – say weight loss – the people you’re targeting and who’s actually on the list may not be a match. In other words, it’s entirely possible two competent marketers could both mail to the same list and get wildly different results.
What you are basically doing is buying targeted traffic to your webpage or affiliate links that you are looking to promote. I personally use solo ads to continue to build my list, and work closely with affiliate companies to know which products are converting well (solo ad secret, list building 😉 ). This way I cover my front end costs to advertise with affiliate sales commissions, all while adding to my list size.
